He first explains how magnetism works, then teases the reader with things they could find. Next he recommends how to choose a location and even writes about legal issues of finds and locations. He describes all of the equipment you will need to magnet fish and how to maintain it. Tips and Tricks was an interesting chapter on techniques of fishing and what to do IF. I think the author is very knowledgeable on this subject and their passion for it shines in their work. However, I couldn’t give it five stars; the writing itself needs much improvement on clarity and general pace. I found myself rereading passages and sentences several times throughout. Hurst, Author of the Jane Digby's Diary Series -- Offbeat and Often Clever : Since I had never heard of magnet fishing before, I decided to read this beginner's guide on the subject by Dylan Norton. The author has an offbeat sense of humor and offers some peculiar spellings and turns of phrase that I believe are intentional and are often, though not always, clever. In spite of this, his knowledge and passion for his subject shine through. My husband and I are both water dogs and may very well give magnet fishing a try. It sounds like fun. But it's basically about dredging river and lake bottoms with magnets, which is what's so interesting about it. I take my kids out on boats once or twice a year, and this might be a fun activity to add to our routine. As a carpenter's wife I have used this concept on land many times to collect nails and screws from driveways, and pathways. Occasionally we would retrieve a lost treasure from beneath a deck, etc. However, I had not explored the thought of magnet fishing in water ways for treasures.
